Feel like you are on your world cruise with this overview guidebook for sailing the world co-authored by Captain Charlie Simon and, his wife, Cathy, while on their sailboat Celebrate, a Taswell 58. Easy-to read, well-organized and entertaining, at the end of reading this book one could ask, “Do you want to take this trip?” The emphatic answer is, “Yes. Let the voyage begin!”

For those fantasizing about a longer sailing voyage, a Pacific Ocean cruise or more, this book gives readers an excellent place to start. Although possibilities are limitless, most cruising circumnavigators follow a basic route similar to the one described in the book. It’s the most comfortable way to go (dictated by global weather patterns) as explained in the book’s useful reference section.

Ports detailed along the way include the Panama Canal transit, a memorable start to the reader's journey. Many aerial/satellite port diagrams, local photos, and excerpts from the ship’s blog tell readers what to expect as the route continues to the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia, Fiji and other islands across the South Pacific. The Simons also chronicle their stops at Australia, Bali and passing through some rough weather in the Indian Ocean; then going on to South Africa and appreciating benign conditions crossing the South Atlantic to Brazil and back to the Caribbean. Colorful stories and photographs from the ports of entry get the reader enthusiastic and build up a "Let's do this!" mind-set and the encouraging, positive tone should inspire readers.

Charlie and Cathy completed their world circumnavigation with the World Cruising Club's World ARC 2014-15 Rally starting in St. Lucia in the Caribbean. They sailed away on Celebrate, leaving Rodney Bay, St. Lucia on January 10, 2014, returning to the Portsmouth/Norfolk, VA area on May 15, 2015, and are now docked in Annapolis.

A popular speaker and accomplished author, Captain Charlie's 60th birthday party kicked off the global circumnavigation and as he said in the book, “As sailors, we get to experience places that cannot be seen by travelling on land or by air.”

Captain Charlie and his wife, Cathy, have been sailing for nearly forty years with over 100,000 sea miles together. As well as circumnavigating, they have also sailed around the USA coasts from Alaska to Nova Scotia, Canada via the Panama Canal. An Electrical Engineer/Computer Scientist and a Banking Executive, Charlie and Cathy Simon have been married for 36 years and have a 32-year old son who joined them on the first leg of the voyage. Since retirement, Charlie and Cathy have been active philanthropists supporting causes in their local area as well as international and youth sailing organizations. Having visited Vanuatu and Fiji on their circumnavigation, they were quick to send aid to these recent hurricane victims. They are now focused on encouraging sailing while supporting sailing organizations at all levels worldwide.
